APB Sinha obtained his PhD (1954) from University of London, UK specializing in solid-state chemistry. He was the Scientist (Director's grade) and Head, Physical Chemistry Division, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune.
Academic and Research Achievements: Sinha synthesized novel transition metal compounds, studied electron-lattice interactions leading to crystal distortion and metal-insulator transitions; electron transport in low-mobility semiconductors; switching and memory effects and magnetic ordering. He developed useful solid-state products, e.g. thermistors, photocells, magnets and photovoltaic materials.
Other Contributions: Dr Sinha was a Member, editorial board, Bulletin Materials Science and Indian Journal of Pure Applied Physics.
Awards and Honours: Sinha received Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (1972) and NRDC Award (1978). He is a Fellow, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, National Academy of Sciences (India), Allahabad and Maharashtra Academy of Sciences.
