K Ananda Rau obtained Tripos in Mathematics (1916) from the University of Cambridge, UK. His specialization was in mathematics. He was Professor of Mathematics (1919-48) and Principal, Presidency College, Madras.

Academic and Research Achievements: Ananda Rau made significant contributions to pure mathematics. He worked on summability of series in general and of general Dirichlet series in particular, functions of a complex variable and representatives of numbers as sums of an even number of squares.

Awards and Honours: Ananda Rau was a Fellow of Indian Academy of Science, Bangalore. He received the title 'Rao Bahadur' (1937).
