Nazir Ahmad obtained his PhD degree (1925) from the University of Cambridge, UK. His specialization was in cotton textile technology and instrumentation. He was Director, Cotton Technological Research Laboratory, Mumbai (1930); Member, Indian Tariff Board; and Secretary, Pakistan Development Board, Karachi.
Academic and Research Achievements: Ahmad worked on the technology of cotton fibres and their processing into yarns. He developed a number of instruments for determining fibre properties of cotton. These included, for example, instruments for determining length parameters and individual-fibre strengths of cotton fibres.
Awards and Honours: Dr Ahmad was a Fellow of Bombay University and Textile Association (India).
