Owen Alfred Roland Berkeley-Hill completed his MADM, BCH (Oxon), LRCP, DTM & H (Lond), MRCS (England). His area of specialization was psychoanalysis. As a Lt Col in the Indian Military Service he held the position of Psychiatrist, European Mental Hospital, Kanke, Bihar.

Academic and Research Achievements: A reputed psychoanalyst, Berkeley-Hill was an authority on mental illness. His services to the Indian community were greatly evidenced by the efficiency of the European Mental Hospital at Kanke which rose to great heights during his period. The members of the League of Nations had certified the hospital during his tenure as the best managed mental hospital.

Other Contributions: Berkeley-Hill was a great linguist, having known over 15 languages including French, German, Swaheli and Telugu. He edited the Indian Journal of Psychology between 1926 and 1938.

Awards and Honours: OAR Berkeley-Hill was a Founder-Member of the Indian Psychoanalytical Society and Indian Psychological Association (President 1927-38). He was the President of the Psychology Section, Indian Science Congress (1926-27).
