Sir Harold John Couchman was a Commissioned Royal Engineer (1900); DSO (1918); Deputy Master of Security Printing, India (1926-29). He was Surveyor-General of India (1933-37).
Academic and Research Achievements: Couchman was appointed in the Survey of India in 1906, where he worked initially for 9 years and after serving in World War I in France during 1915-19, returned to India as Deputy Master, Security Printing. Later, he served the Survey of India and became the Surveyor-General in which capacity he made important contributions to the development of the Survey.
Awards and Honours: Couchman was Vice-President of INSA (1935). He was Knighted (1937).
