Sir Arthur Olver did FRCVS (1908), Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, London, UK specializing in veterinary science and animal husbandry. He served as the Assistant Director-General, Veterinary Services (1908); Deputy Director, Veterinary Services, British Remount Commission, Canada and America (1917), India (1928-30); Expert Adviser in Animal Husbandry, Government of India (1930-38); Principal, Royal (Dick) Veterinary College, Edinburgh (1938-45).

Academic and Research Achievements:Olver contributed to veterinary services, particularly in his capacity as an Expert Adviser in Animal Husbandry to the Government of India. He was extensively trained for control of cattle diseases such as rinderpest and east coast fever, diseases caused directly or indirectly by mineral or other deficiencies in food.

Other Contributions:Sir Arthur put the animal husbandry and veterinary services in India on a firm footing through various schemes he had formulated. He was a Member, Royal Commission of Veterinary Services. He authored ‘A Brief Survey of Some of the Important Breeds of Cattle in India’ (ICAR, 1938).

Awards and Honours:Olver was the recipient of Queen’s Medal; CB (1919); Knighted (1937); President, All India Veterinary Conference (1930) and Indian Science Congress (1937-38). He was Fellow, Royal Society of Edinburgh; Member, INSA Council (1940-43).
