Summary

Raghunath Purushottam Paranjpye obtained Mathematical Tripos (1899) from University of Cambridge, UK. He worked as Professor of Mathematics and Principal, Fergusson College, Mumbai; Vice-Chancellor, Lucknow University; First Indian High Commissioner to Australia; and also Vice-Chancellor, University of Poona.

Academic and Research Achievements: Paranjpye, the first Indian Wrangler, contributed a great deal to mathematics. A versatile personality, he was a polymath interested in science, education, politics and sports.

Other Contributions: Paranjpye served as Member of the Reforms Enquiry, and Taxation committees.

Awards and Honours: Professor Paranjpye was elected Honorary Fellow of the University of Cambridge, UK; and also Minister in the Bombay Cabinet.
