Summary

Sri Krishna received PhD (1921) and DSc (1927) both from University of London, UK. He served as Professor of Chemistry, Panjab University, Lahore; Biochemist, Forest Research Institute, Dehra Dun; Deputy Director, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi; and Scientific Advisor to the Indian High Commission, UK.

Academic and Research Achievements: A specialist in the chemistry of forest products, Sri Krishna synthesized a large number of sulphur compounds. He surveyed the raw materials in India for the drugs ephedrin (from Ephedra) and santonine (from Artimisia) and rubber yielding plants. He also developed a sizing material from tamarind seeds for cotton and jute.

Other Contributions: Sri Krishna was Member of the INSA Council (1948-50).

Award and Honours: Professor Sri Krishna received CIE (1942). He was elected Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chemistry, London and was also President of the Chemistry Section, Indian Science Congress (1940).
