Piare Lal Srivastava received DPhill (1927) from University of Oxford, UK. He was Reader, Professor and Head, Department of Mathematics, University of Allahabd (1929-60); and later Vice-Chancellor, Bihar University, Muzaffarpur.

Academic and Research Achievements: Srivastava contributed to the theory and functions of complex variables and Dirichlets series as acknowledged by Hadamard of France, Littlewood of Cambridge, and Titchmarsch of Oxford.

Other Contributions: Srivastava’s works found a place in the book Introduction to the Theory of Fourier Integrals (1937). He was an educationist of great reputation and managed one of Kanpur’s Pathshalas. He served the cause of education as Member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly for over a decade.

Awards and Honours: Professor Srivastava was elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences (India), Allahabad (President 1955-57); and also Additional Vice-President, INSA (1944, 1956-57, 1962).
