Badri Nath Prasad obtained PhD (1931) from University of Liverpool, UK and DSc (1932) from University of Paris, France. He was Professor (1946-49, 1951-61) and Head (1958-61), Department of Mathematics, University of Allahabad; and also Professor and Head (1949-51), Department of Mathematics, Science College, Patna.

Academic and Research Achievements: Working at different problems in `pure mathematics’, Prasad studied extensively theory of Fourier series, its conjugate and divided series: theory and application of absolute summability of infinite series in general; summability factors, Fourier integrals, and radial variation. He wrote the book Hydrostatics (also translated into Marathi and Hindi).

Other Contributions: Prasad built up an active school of research on summability theory at the University of Allahabad. He served as Member of the London Mathematical Society, American Mathematical Society and Bharat Ganita Parishad (Member, Managing Committee). He was also Member of the Rajya Sabha (upper house of the parliament) during 1964-65.

Awards and Honours: Professor Prasad was conferred Padma Bhushan (1963). He was President, Mathematics and Statistics Section (1944-45), General Secretary Outstation (1952-55, 1958-61) and President (1965-66), Indian Science Congress. He was also elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences (India), Allahabad (Vice President and President, 1965-66); Vice-President of the Calcutta Mathematical Society and Vijnan Parishad; and President, Indian Mathematical Society and Allahabad Mathematical Society.
