Sachhidananda Datta, a Veterinary scientist received his DSc from the University of Edinburgh (1938). He was the Director of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar. Academic and Research Achievements: Datta did extensive work on animal diseases of India both in the field and in the laboratory. He made original discoveries on bursati, enzootic bovine haematuria, bovine nasal granuloma, lichen tropicus, acquired schistosomiasis and acquired encephalomyelita. Other Contributions: Sachhidananda Datta was largely responsible for planning the eradication of rinderpest from India. Awards and Honours: Major Datta was the President of the Medical and Veterinary Sciences Section in the Indian Science Congress. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
