Kumar Nath Bagchi completed his MB (1915), DTM (1923) from the University of Calcutta and D T M (1929) from the University of Liverpool, UK. His areas of specialization were medicinal chemistry and biochemistry. He held the positions of Chemical Examiner to the Government of Bengal, Professor of Chemistry, Calcutta Medical College, Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry, Principal of the National Medical College, Calcutta (1956-69).
Academic and Research Achievements: Bagchi made notable contributions to medicinal chemistry, toxicology and bacteriology.
Awards and Honours: KM Bagchi was a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chemistry (London), a member of the Asiatic Society. He served on the INSA Council (1942, 1947-49, 1953-55, 1957-58, 1960-61) and was Treasurer (1943-45).
