Sam Bomansha Setna obtained PhD from University of Cambridge, UK. He worked as Fisheries Officer and Director of Fisheries, Mumbai; Consultant, Taiyo Fishing Company; and also Managing Director, New India Fisheries Limited.

Academic and Research Achievements: Dr Setna was one of the pioneers in fisheries development in India. He established the Fisheries Department from scratch and nurtured it. He was responsible for persuading fishermen and businessmen to introduce fast-moving launchers for bringing the abundant supplies of mackerel and sardines from the North Canara coast to the thriving markets of Mumbai.

Other Contributions: Setna established the Taraporewala Aquarium and Marine Biology Research Station. He also served as Editor of the Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society.

Awards and Honours: Dr Setna won the Chandrakala Hora Medal by INSA (1950). He was elected Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society, London, Zoological Society of India, and Bombay Natural History Society.
