Mangalore Gopal Kini obtained his Medical degree (1919) from Madras Medical College. His areas of specialization were Orthopaedic Surgery and Anaesthetic Technique. He was in Madras Medical Service (1921), and Surgeon and Superintendent, Stanley Hospital, Madras.
Academic and Research Achievements: Kini made significant contributions to general and orthopaedic surgery in India.
Other Contributions: Kini started the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Stanley Hospital (now Government General Hospital), Madras.
Awards and Honours: Kini was a Fellow of Royal Society of Edinburgh, and American College of Surgeons. He was the Founder Member of Association of Surgeons of India (sometime President) as well as of International College of Surgeons, Indian Chapter (President, 1952).
