Jyotish Chandra Gupta did his MD (1908) with specialization in pharmacology. He was in Indian Medical Service and a Professor of Tropical Medicine as well as Director, School of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata. He was also a Professor of Pharmacology, University of Calcutta.
Academic and Research Achievements: Gupta worked on the elucidation and evaluation of indigenous drugs and their extracts including a number of alkaloids and glucosides and several newly synthesized drugs. He carried out trials with many of the products and preparations. He recognized many of the tropical diseases and treated chronic diseases of the stomach, intestines and liver.
Other Contributions: Gupta made his mark as physician, medical examiner and teacher of medicine.
Awards and Honours: Gupta was a Fellow/Member, University of Calcutta and Indian Medical Association.
