Summary

SP Raju received Dr Ing from University of Munich, Germany. He remained Engineer-Director, Engineering Research Department, Nizam’s Government, Hyderabad; and also Professor of Hydraulics and Principal, Engineering College, Osmania University, Hyderabad.

Academic and Research Achievements: Raju’s researches covered: causes and prevention of scour in causeway with pipe vents in sand foundations; flow in bends of open channels; OGEE spillway and dissipation of energy under Nizamsagar flood gates; nature of flow in arched vents of deep submersible bridges during floods; and coefficient of discharge of water in oblique and smokeless hygienic chulhas (cooking stoves).

Other Contributions: Raju made noteworthy contributions to raise the quality of engineering education in Indian universities. He was Member of the Institution of Engineers (India).

Awards and Honours: Professor Raju was Chairman of the Hyderabad Centre, International Association for Hydraulic Structures Research, Stockholm.
