Summary

JP Bose did his MB (1919) from the University of Calcutta. He was Officer-in-charge, Diabetes Research Centre, School of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata.

Academic and Research Achievements: Bose made significant contributions to medicine, particularly, relating to diabetes. In his work on glycosuria in pregnancy, Bose showed, as early as 1922, that the anterior pituitary gland plays an important role. His work on the potency and keeping qualities of insulin is considered highly significant. He authored Handbook on Diabetes Mellitus and Its Modern Treatment (four edns).

Awards and Honours: Bose was a Fellow of Chemical Society (London) and a recipient of Minto Gold Medal (1935).
