Vishnu Madhav Ghatage obtained his DPhil degree from the University of Gottingen, Germany. His specialization was in Aeronautical Engineering. He was the Managing Director, Products Designers Pvt. Ltd, a Professor of Aeronautical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and General Manager, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bangalore.
Academic and Research Achievements: Ghatage had specialized in aerodynamics and aircraft structures. He was responsible for designing, developing and test flying a droop-carrying glider, HT-2 trainer aircraft, two-seater Pushpak, an ultralight aircraft for training pilots in flying clubs, Krishak aircraft for agricultural purposes, trainer Kiran, and a jet engine with 2500 lb thrust.
Other Contributions: Ghatage was a Member of Institution of Engineers (India), Aeronautical Society of India and Maharashtra Academy of Sciences.
Awards and Honours: Ghatage was a recipient of Sir Walter Pucky Indian Prize (1969), National Design Award and Padma Shri (1965). He was a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore and Royal Aeronautical Engineering Society.
