Suddhodan Ghosh earned his DSc degree (1928) from the University of Calcutta. His specialization was in applied mechanics. He was the Rashbehary Ghose Professor of Mathematics, University of Calcutta (1959-63).
Academic and Research Achievements: Ghosh’s research comprised essentially two fields: fluid dynamics and elasticity. The latter include bending of plates, plane strain, plane stress, generalized plane stress problems in isotropic and aeolotropic bodies, vibration of ring, and torsion-flexure problems Ghosh’s originality lay in reducing complex engineering problems to those of pure mathematics.
Other Contributions: Ghosh served as an Honorary Editorial Secretary of Calcutta Mathematical Society.
Awards and Honours: Ghosh was a Fellow of Mathematical Society (London) and the Calcutta Mathematical Society.
