Rai Bahadur Kalidas Sawhney did his MSc (1918) from Punjab University , Lahore. He worked as Professor of Biology, Islamia College, Peshawar; Honorary Bacteriologist, Indian General Hospital, Peshawar; Cotton Breeder, Department of Agriculture, Baghdad; Director of Agriculture (Research) and later Extension also, HEH the Nizam’s Government; Plant Breeder and Secretary, Indian Central Cotton Committee, Mumbai.
Academic and Research Achievements: Working in the areas: agriculture and bacteriology, Sawhney did much work on the breeding and development of cotton varieties in India and neighbouring countries. .
Awards and Honours: Professor Sawhney was conferred the titles Rai Saheb (1930) and Rai Bahadur (1945). He also won King George’s Coronation Medal (1938).
