Khurshed F Antia did his MSc (Engg) from the University of London, UK. His specialization was in civil and structural engineering. He was Deputy Chief Engineer and Principal Bridge Engineer, Kharagpur Railways Workshop; Director, Research Designs and Standards Organization (Ministry of Railways), Lucknow; Technical Controller, Cement Marketing Company Ltd., Mumbai; Chief Engineer & Consultant, MN Dastur and Company Private Ltd, Mumbai (1961-68).
Academic and Research Achievements: Antia was responsible for the construction of major railway bridges and military depots as well as their reconstruction without diversions of busy traffic. He executed several schemes of Indian Railways like an underground railway for interconnecting the track at Church Gate and Victoria Terminus stations, and electrification of Mumbai-Ahmedabad Section. Among the several books Antia had written, two are classics: Fundamentals of Reinforced Concrete and Railway Track.
Other Contributions: Antia served on the Indian Railway Standards Committees as well as several committees of Indian Standard Institution (now Bureau of Indian Standards). He edited the Journal Permanent Way Institution (1944-46).
Awards and Honours: Antia received Railway First Prize (1943-44) and Gold Medal (1947, 1948). He was Member of International Federation of Prestressed Concrete (sometime Vice-President); Indian Roads Congress (sometime Vice-President); Institution of Engineers (India) (Vice-President, 1959-60 and President, 1968); and Federation International de la Precontraintse Paris (Vice-President, 1968). He was a Fellow of Permanent Way Institution (London).
