Summary

Bhudeb Chandra Basu obtained his DSc degree (1935) from the University of Calcutta. His specialization was in entomology and zoology. He was Entomologist, Bengal Public Health Department (1926); Entomologist (1927-31), Spirochaetosis Transmission Enquiry; Entomologist (1931-39), School of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata; Assistant Research Officer (Entomology 1939); and Research Officer (1940-49), Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar.

Academic and Research Achievements: Basu did extensive research on human and avian malaria, human filariasis, rat-bite fever, relapsing fever, avian spirochaetosis, fowl cholera, anthrax, rinderpest and surra. He contributed significantly in the areas of transmission, parasitology, treatment, prophylactics, disease, and insect control.

Other Contributions: Basu worked as Managing Editor of Science & Culture.

Awards and Honours: Basu was the President, Zoology and Entomology Section of Indian Science Congress (1950).
