(Dr KR Dixit)
  Gender M
Birth 1909
Specialization Nuclear Physics; Solid State Physics
  Year of Election 1954
  Demise 1977-12-00
Summary

KR Dixit obtained his PhD (year) from the Universities of London, and Leipzig, Germany with specialization in nuclear physics and solid state physics. He was the Head, Physics Department, Institute of Science, Mumbai; Principal, Gujarat College, Ahmedabad.

Academic and Research Achievements: Dixit’s contributions to solid-state physics, thin films, semiconductor rectifiers and ferromagnetism are well known. The arrangement of atoms in thin films is known as Dixit’s law. He was the first to introduce the idea of doping for copper oxide rectifiers and to find experimentally the conditions under which iron appears in a nonmagnetic form. He showed that positrons could annihilate themselves by producing two or three quanta. His contributions to cosmic-ray physics are equally significant.

Awards and Honours: KR Dixit was a Member of Institute of Nuclear Physics as well as a Member of its Governing Body. He was also a Fellow (and sometime President) of the Indian Physical Society.
