Satyeshwar Ghosh earned his DSc (1926) from the University of Allahabad. His specialization was in physical chemistry. He was Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, University of Allahabad; then Professor and Head, Chemistry Department, Rector and Vice-Chancellor, University of Jabalpur.
Academic and Research Achievements: Ghosh did extensive work on the stability of colloids, kinetics of coagulation, Leisegang ring formation, adsorption and chemistry of hydrous oxides. He studied the kinetics of a large number of redox reactions in solution and determined the equilibrium constants of some metal amines and thio salts of As, Sb and Sn.
Awards and Honours: Ghosh was President of the Chemistry Section of the Indian Science Congress (1958). He was an Honorary Fellow of Indian Association for Agricultural Chemists, Additional Member (1955-56, 59, 60) and Additional Vice-President (1961) of INSA Council and President of National Academy of Sciences (India), Allahabad (1961-63).
