Summary

Prem Nath Ganju obtained his PhD degree (1944) from the University of Lucknow and a second PhD (1950) from the University of Durham, UK. His area of specialization was geology. He was Professor and Head, Department of Geology, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.

Academic and Research Achievements: Ganju studied Panjal Traps in Srinagar, Kashmir, and new species of Psygmophyllum (P Sahnii sp. Nov.) from the Lower Gondwana beds of Kashmir.

Other Contributions: Ganju authored a monograph, The Petrology of Indian Coals.

Awards and Honours: Ganju was a Fellow of Geological Society of London, an Associate of the Institute of Mining Engineers (London) and a Member of Geologists’ Association (London) as well as of the Palaeobotanical Society of India.
