Summary

Chandra Sekhar Ghosh did his SM (Electrical Engineering) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His specialization was in applied physics and electrical engineering. He was Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Academic and Research Achievements: Ghosh was an eminent power engineer of India, although his early work related to physical properties of vegetable oils. He also did some work on standardization of street illumination in cities. Later, he worked on the development of hydroelectric projects like Damodar Parikalpana as well as on economic voltages for transmission of power and single-phase operation of three-phase motors.

Awards and Honours: CS Ghosh was the recipient of the Jubilee Research Prize and Gold Medal from the University of Calcutta. He was the Member of American Institute of Electrical Engineers, Illuminating Engineering Society of America, Optical Society of America and Tensor Club of Great Britain.
