Waman Bapuji Metre received his Diploma of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad specializing in geology, petroleum geology and palaeontology. He served as the Senior Geologist, Assam Oil Co Ltd, Digboi, Assam.

Academic and Research Achievements: Metre collaborated with Percy Evans in the Assam oilfields and did valuable micropalaeontological and geophysical work in Assam. He was also responsible for standardization of certain geological terms.

Awards and Honours: Metre was a Fellow, Geological Society of London. He served as the President, Geology Section, Indian Science Congress (1961).
