Jagannath Gupta received his DSc degree (1938) from the University of Calcutta. His areas of specialization were inorganic and analytical chemistry. He was Deputy Director, Assistant Director and Head, Division of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry (1948-61), National Chemical Laboratory, Pune.
Academic and Research Achievements: Gupta’s researches cover the structure of molecules, and use of organic reagents in inorganic analysis of minerals containing rare earth elements like titanium, zirconium, thorium, uranium, tautaben, niobium, hafnium etc.
Other Contributions: Gupta wrote two popular books in Bengali: The Raman Effect and The Four Metals of the New Age. He was a Member of the Maharashtra State Industrial Research Board.
Awards and Honours: Gupta was a Fellow of Indian Chemical Society and Bangiya Vigyan Parishad.
