Ganesan Venkataraman did his PhD (1966) from Bombay University specializing in condensed matter physics. He served as the Director, Physics, Electronics and Instrumentation Group, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam; Director, ANURAG, Defence Research and Development Organization; Distinguished Scientist, DRDO.
Academic and Research Achievements: Venkataraman has carried out studies in neutron scattering, lattice dynamics, mechanical properties of matter, non-crystalline state, neutral networks and image processing.
Other Contributions: Venkataraman worked for technology transfer to computer industry and advanced VLSI design and fabrication. He served on editorial board of Pramana.
Awards and Honours: Dr Venkataraman is recipient of the Sir CV Raman Award (UGC) (1979), Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship (1984-86), Padma Shri (1991) and Indira Gandhi Prize for Popularization of Science of INSA (1994). He is a Fellow, Indian Academy of Sciences and Materials Research Society of India. |
