Academic and Research Achievements: Ganguly specialized in radiation chemistry, properties of clay minerals, environmental pollution and control and reactor siting. His outstanding piece of work was on base exchange behaviour of homo-ionic clay salts. His work in theoretical radiation chemistry (radical reaction mechanism in the tracks of ionizing radiation) is considered to be a monumental contribution. He also addressed the problems of health and safety, siting of nuclear power reactors and environmental problems. He established a school of marine pollution and was widely recognized as an authority on organo-metallic interactions in marine environment.

Other Contributions: Ganguly was an International Atomic Energy Agencies representative to advise atomic energy agencies of several countries on setting up facilities for health and safety.
