Chinubhai Ghelabhai Khatri obtained his PhD degree (1960) in statistics from the MS University of Baroda. He retired as Professor of Statistics, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad.
Academic and Research Achievements: Khatri did original work on multivariate distribution theory, matrix algebra, especially on g-inverses, linear models in the estimation variance components and location parameters, design of experiments in the analysis of the design of experiments and optimality, characterization of distributions and optimality of certain functions of matrix arguments. He co-authored the book An Introduction to Multivariate Statistics (North-Holland, 1979).
Other Contributions: Khatri served as an Editor of Gujarat Statistics Review. He was a member of Editorial Boards of several journals like Sankhya, Journal of Multivariate Analysis, etc. He was Life Member of Indian Statistical Institute, Indian Statistical Association, Gujarat Statistical Association and Gujarat Ganit Mandal.
Awards and Honours: Khatri was a Fellow of American Statistical Association and Institute of Mathematical Statistics. He was also a Member of American Statistical Association, Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and International Statistical Institute. He was President of Gujarat Statistical Association (1969-71).
