TN Shorey obtained BA and MA degrees from Panjab University, after which he joined the School of Mathematics of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai where he worked under the supervision of K Ramachandra and obtained the PhD from the University of Mumbai.
Academic and Research Achievements: Shorey worked in Number Theory and more precisely in Diophantine equations, Diophantine approximations and Transcendence. He has made significant contributions in Transcendental Number Theory, in particular best estimates for linear forms in logarithms of algebraic numbers. He has to his credit ingenious and original applications of Baker's method to Diophantine equations and Ramanujan's T-function.
Awards and Honours: Professor Shorey was awarded SS Bhatnagar Award in 1987. He was elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore and National Academy of Sciences (India), Allahabad. |
