Nukala Viswanadham obtained BE, ME and PhD degrees from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore in 1964, 1966, and 1970, respectively. He worked as GE Research Fellow and Tata Chemicals Chair Professor, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore; Deputy Executive Director, the Logistics Institute-Asia Pacific and also as Professor in Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering at the National University of Singapore. Presently, he is working as Professor and Executive Director, Center of Excellence in Global Logistics and Manufacturing Strategies, Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.

Academic and Research Achievements: Professor Viswanadham has contributed significantly to the area of automation, in particular manufacturing automation. He has made notable contributions and published a number of high impact papers on quantitative performance analysis of production, product development, logistics and supply chain networks. His research concerning the emerging economy manufacturing and logistics issues received wide attention. He is author of three textbooks, six edited volumes, over 80 journal articles and more than 100 conference papers on automation. He is the lead author of the textbook entitled Performance Modeling of Automated Manufacturing Systems (Prentice Hall Inc, USA, 1992). His recent book is entitled Analysis of Manufacturing Enterprises-- An approach to Leveraging the Value Delivery Processes for Competitive Advantage (Kluwer Academic Publishers, Boston, 2000). He has also supervised 10 PhD students.

Awards and Honours: Viswanadham was GE Research Fellow (1989-90), Tata Chemicals Chair Professor at IISc, and recipient of Alumni award for Excellence in Research by IISc (1996). He was elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, Indian National Academy of Engineering, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
