Santosh Kumar Mishra obtained his PhD degree (1983) from the University of Poona. His areas of specialization are dynamic meteorology, numerical modeling and energetics of the atmosphere. During 1976-93 he was Head, Theoretical Studies Division, Head, Computer Division and Deputy Director, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune; Visiting Scientist, Department of Meteorology, Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam (1989, 1992); Director General, National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting, New Delhi (1993-97) and Visiting Scientist, Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (1997-2000, 2004-05)

Academic and Research Achievements: Mishra has contributed to our understanding of the origin and development of atmospheric disturbances associated with the Indian southwest monsoon and of global monsoon circulation. He has specialized in using spectral techniques in modelling and other dynamical studies. He developed fully indigenously primitive equation barotropic and multilevel global spectral models.

Awards and Honours: Mishra is a Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore. He received WMO Research Award (1981); SAARC Regional Award for Young Scientists (1987); and Bienniel Mausam Award (1986-87).
