Kaushal Kishore obtained his BSc (1962) and MSc (1964) from Lucknow University and PhD (1967) from Gorakhpur University. He served as Professor and Chairman, Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Academic and Research Achievements: Dr Kishore's group contributed to the study of physico-chemical behaviour of widely contrasting weak-link polymers, such as polyperoxides. These undergo facile degradation and are highly flammable as well as fire retardant. Fire retardancy can be induced by adding long chained phosphorous compound, which also acts as a plasticizer. In both types of polymers, degradation plays a key role and hence he emphasized on understanding the primary bond-cleavage mechanism and energetics of degradation. The degradative behaviour of weak-link polymers had been interpreted from bond energies and reactivity of the radicals produced. To gain insight to the deterrent phenomena of migration and volatile loss, he made extensive studies on the flow and vapourization behaviour of long chain liquids (carboxylate and phosphate esters, mol.wt. 300-1000). To understand their plasticizing efficiency, he studied their glass forming temperament, flexibility and polymer-plasticizer interactions by utilizing well known Kauzmann's paradox. The noticeable feature in Dr Kishore&$39;s approach had been to bring 'thermodynamic bias' to the polymer chemistry thus enriching both the fields.

Other Contributions: Dr Kishore was a member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Applied Polymer Science (John Wiley) and Journal of Polymer Materials (Oxford and IHB).

Awards and Honours: Kaushal Kishore received SS Bhatnagar Award (1988) and Indian Thermal Analysis Award of NICAR (1991). He was a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore and National Academy of Sciences (India), Allahabad. Kishore was a Life Member of Indian Thermal Analysis Society, Indian High Energy Materials Society, Indian Polymer Society and Materials Research Society of India.
