Arup Bose earned his B Stat, M Stat and PhD (Statistics) degrees from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. He then joined Purdue University, USA as an Assistant Professor. After four years at Purdue, he returned to India in 1991 and joined the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata as an Associate Professor and was promoted to full Professorship in 1995.

Academic and Research Achievements: Professor Bose has worked in several areas of Statistics and Probability, often trying different areas with his insightful articles. His works have appeared in leading statistics and probability journals. Most notable areas of his research include, sequential analysis, statistical estimation in diffusion processes, law of large numbers and central limit theorems, resampling methods, censored data problems, M estimation, U statistics, time series, asymptotic properties of estimators and so on. Recently he has also developed interest in moral hazard problems in economics. Other Contributions: Bose was associated with Sankhya, the leading Indian Statistics journal, for a long time, first as its Co-Editor, then as Managing Editor and finally as one of its Editors. He is at present an Associate Editor of IMS Collection of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, USA and also an Associate Editor of the journal Statistics and Probability Letters.

Awards and Honours: Arup Bose obtained the National Award in Statistics from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India (2002-03). The International Indian Statistical Association, USA presented him the Young Researcher Award (2004). He was awarded the SS Bhatnagar Prize (2004). Bose a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore and of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, USA (2002).
