Anjan Joshipura obtained his BSc from Saurashtra University and MSc from Gujarat University. He then joined Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Bombay and earned his PhD degree (1979) from Bombay University under the supervision of Probir Roy. Subsequently he worked at Hamburg University as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow. On returning to India (1982), he worked at IIT Kanpur, Saurashtra University and Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai before joining Physical Research Laboratory Chennai (PRL), Ahmedabad. He presently holds the position of outstanding scientist at PRL.

Academic and Research Achievements: Joshipura has worked on many different aspects of theoretical high energy physics which include CP violation, grand unified theories, supersymmetry, extra dimensional models, etc. His most recent contributions are in the field of neutrino physics. He has invented various theoretical frameworks for the consistent description of fermion masses and mixings, and studied their implications. Intimate connection between the Higgs decay and spontaneously violated lepton number was brought out by him and its importance on Higgs discovery was highlighted. He has more than 100 published papers and has guided three students for their PhD degree.

Other Contributions: Joshipura has taken part in various national scientific activities, like organization of WHEPP, SERC schools and other conferences. He is currently a member of the Editorial Board of Pramana, a journal of Physics and has edited a special issue of Pramana on neutrino physics.

Awards and Honours: Joshipura is a Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore; the National Academy of Sciences (India), Allahabad, and the Gujarat Science Academy. He has been a JSPS Fellow and an Associate Member of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics at Trieste, Italy.
