Dr. Agrewala was a visiting Scientist at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, London, UK [1994-1996] and Trudeau Institute, Saranac Lake, USA [2001-2002]. Currently, Dr. Agrewala is working as a Chief Scientist at the CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh.
Academic and Research Achievements: Dr. Agrewala’s group has demonstrated novel and simple vaccination strategies against M. tuberculosis [Eur J Immunol. 1994, J Infect Dis. 2004, Eur J Immunol. 1999, J Proteome Res. 2008, J Infect Dis 2010, PLoSOne 2011, Crit Rev Microbiol. 2011, J Infect Dis 2011, Trends Mol Med 2012, US Patent 6783765)]. His group has also demonstrated that costimulatory molecules can be exploited for regulating the immune response [J Immunol. 1994, 1998, Eur J Immunol. 1994, Clin Exp Immunol. 1998, J Biol Chem. 2002, Clin Exp Immunol. 2007, PLoSOne 2011, J Immunol. 2012, PLoS Pathogens 2012, PLoS One 2013]. His group has also discovered the role of ‘Caerulomycin A’ in suppressing the activity of T cells [US Patent No. 8,114,895]. Dr. Agrewala has also demonstrated that CD4+ T cell memory and effectors have distinct migratory priorities [Adv Exp Med Biol. 2002, Immunol Rev. 2006, J Biol Chem. 2007].
Dr. Agrewala identified the immunosuppressive role of Caerulomycin A. The technology was transferred for USD 3 million to USA based Nostrum Pharmaceutical Company. Dr. RM Vohra and Dr. RS Jolly worked on the Microbiology and Chemistry aspect of the project, respectively.
Other Contributions: Dr. Agrewala has been on editorial board/reviewer for many international journals like PLoS One, BMC Immunology, Recent Patents on Anti-Infective Drug Discovery, Amino Acids, Eur J Immunol, J Neuroimmunol,  Infection Immunity, Clin Exp Immunol., Inflammation Res. J Infect Dis, J Bac, J Proteome Res, Immunology, Vaccine, Cancer Lett, Microbiol Immunol, J Med Microbiol, Brain Behaviour Immunity, Int Immunopharmacol, Hematologia, Exp Parasitol, Polish J Food Nutr Sci, Adv Applied Res, Current Science, J Bioscience, etc. He is a member of several prestigious committees like Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Advisory Committee-Medical Sciences, Board of Studies, Hamdard University, New Delhi, Selection Committee of Scientists: Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun, Board Nominee: Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Expert Member (Biomedicine): Indo-Hungarian bilateral program, Institute’s Animal Ethics Committee, IMTECH, CSIR-Nehru Science Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Scheme, INSPIRE-DST program. He is also a Biosafety Officer, In-charge BSL-3 Laboratory and Animal Facility, IMTECH, Chandigarh.

Awards and Honours: Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, Fellow: Indian National Science Academy, Fellow: National Academy of Sciences India, National Bioscience Award for Career Development, New Idea Research Talent Award, Fellowship: Medical Research Council (MRC), U.K.
