We study quantum phases of matter (superconductivity, magnetism, topological order etc) using high resolution photoelectron spectroscopy and theoretical electronic structure calculations.
We have setup a high resolution photoelectron spectrometer in TIFR with energy, angle and spin resolutions - a unique one in India. The spectrometer works at an energy resolution better than 2 meV and angle resolution 0.1 deg. We also do high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (resolution ~ 2 meV) to probe coupling of electrons with phonon, magnon, plasmon etc. We grow high quality crystalline films following epitaxial growth method. The bulk single crystals are obtained via collaboration.
We addressed/resolved number of interesting issues in material science - to name a few are surface-bulk differences in correlated electron systems, magnetization in one dimensional chains, pseudogap in BCS superconductors, spin density wave quantum criticality in Kondo lattice systems, aging effect/fragility of topologically ordered states etc.
