\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n Vivek Agarwal received the B.Sc. degree in Physics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, Delhi, India, in 1985, the integrated M.E. degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, in 1990, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, in 1994. After a stint (1994-1995) with Stat power technologies, Burnaby (Canada), he joined the dept. of electrical engineering, IIT-Bombay (1995) where he is currently a Chair Professor with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, India.\\r\\n \r\n\r\n \r\n Academic and research contribution: Vivek Agarwal mainly works in the field of power electronics with focus on power quality issues, renewable energy conversion, distributed generation and microgrids. He also works on several aspects of electronic systems including medical and defense applications and EMI/EMC. Dr. Agarwal has served as principal investigator or co principal investigator for about 25 projects sponsored by various agencies of the Govt of India such as BRNS, MNRE, MHRD, ARDE, DRDE, DRDO etc. He has also worked on several consultancy projects for clients such as GE (USA), IXYS(USA), Godrej and Boyce (India), Hitachi(India-Japan), Statpower Corporation (Canada), Advanced Power Technology (France, USA), BHEL (India), Hella Automative Pvt. Ltd (India-Germany) and so on. He has authored nearly 375 papers in reputed journals and conference proceedings. He has 17 patents to his credit (out of which 3 US patents and 8 Indian patents have already been issued). \r\n | \r\n \r\n \r\n Other contributions: He currently serves as the co-editor in chief for IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics. Besides this, he also serves on the editorial boards of IEEE trans. on Industry Applications and IET journal of Renewable Power Generation (UK). In the past, he has served on the editorial boards of IEEE Tran. on smart grid, and Inderscience Journal of Intelligent Defense Support Systems. He has served (and continues to serve) as the reviewer of various reputed journals and conferences. He was appointed a Research Ambassador by German academic exchange service (DAAD) in Aug. 2010 in recognition of his outstanding commitment and leadership in promoting Indo-German relations in education and research. | \r\n \r\n \r\n Awards and Honours: Vivek Agarwal is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), USA, Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), and the Indian Academy of Sciences (IASc), Bangalore, besides being a fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) since January 2021. He has received many awards during his career such as: IIT Bombay’s IRCC research dissemination award (2018), IIT Bombay’s Prof. H. H. Mathur award for contributions to research in solar PV area (2014), IETE Bimal Bose award (2010) for contributions to the field of power electronics, System society of India’s Vikram award for the development of web based spirometer (2008), IETE’s Biman Behari Sen award (2013) for contributions to emerging areas of electronics and a few best paper awards.
