Prof. Sachchida Nand Tripathi did B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from IIT-BHU and M.Tech. in Environmental Engineering from NIT-Allahabad . He did Ph.D. in Meteorology from University of Reading, UK . Prof. Tripathi was as a visiting scientist, Environmental Assessment Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai and has a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant, from Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics, Department of Physics, University of Oxford. Prof. Tripathi joined the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur as an Assistant Professor in July 2003. He has numerous foreign assignments. He visited NASA Godard center as a senior research fellow, he was a visiting Professor in Laboratoire de Physique etChimie de Environnement, University of Orleans, France and Visiting Professor, School of Civil Environmental Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. \r\n\r\nAwards and Honours: At present Prof. Tripathi is Arjun Dev Joneja Faculty Chair at IIT-Kanpur. He is the recipient of prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences in 2014. He has received NASI-SCOPUS Young Scientist Award for highest citation in Earth Sciences in 2009, Sir M. Visvesaraya Research Fellowship for excellence in teaching and Research, 2009-12, Distinguished Alumnus Award, Banaras Hindu University in 2015, U.P. Ratna Award, Government of Uttar Pradesh, 2018. He is a J C Bose National Fellow 2021, and fellow of Institute of Advanced Sustainability Studies, Potsdam, Germany, 2021-2022. \r\n\r\nProf. Tripathi was appointed as Adjunct Professor, Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Kanpur from Nov 2014-Oct 2016 and Coordinator, Centre for Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT Kanpur from Nov 2014-Oct 2017. He was tthe Head, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Kanpur from June 2018–July 2021. He is also Faculty at Centre of Excellence for Research on Clean Air (CERCA), Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, since November 2019. \r\n\r\nAcademic and Research Achievements: Prof. Tripathi has made impactful contribution to address challenges of Air Pollution and Climate Change. He has built ground-breaking innovative approaches for indigenously built low-cost sensor-based network technologies for nation-wide urban air quality monitoring and Real Time Source Apportionment (RTSA). His work on Taj Mahal discolouration led to policy interventions in Agra city. His pioneering work in aerosol-induced cloud invigoration effect (AIvE) and synergy of coupling between urban land use, land cover and Cloud Condensation Nuclei-induced AIvE has contributed significantly in future urban planning to avoid flash floods. The people-centric nature of his research contributed uniquely to both technological solutions and the evolution of policy guidelines for securing clean air in India. He has set up National Aerosol Facility (NAF) for lateral translation of knowledge and expertise to serve the important cause of the involvement of academia in nuclear safety studies. Prof. Tripathi is the Coordinator of the National Knowledge Network, formed under the National Clean Air Program and an expert member of Steering Committee and Monitoring Committee, National Clean Air Program and member of Executive Council, Climate Change Program, Department of Science and Technology.
