Summary

Dr. P K Ghosh, FNA, FNASc, FNAAS, (1962) obtained B.Sc Ag (Hons) from Visva-Bharati University and;  M.Sc. and Ph. D, with First Class First (90%) & Gold Medal in  GBPUA&T, Pantnagar. He started his professional career as scientist at ICAR-DGR, Junagadh, subsequently posted as Senior Scientist at ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal; Principal scientist at ICAR Research Complex, for NEH Region, Barapani; Head, Crop Production Division, Indian Institute of pulses Research in 2009; Director, Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi in 2012; National Coordinator, National Agricultural Higher Education Project - World Bank aided project, ICAR, New Delhi in 2017. Dr Ghosh completed 31 years’ service (14 years as Research Management position, Administrator and 17 years as Principal Scientist) in ICAR. Presently working as Founder Director and Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-National Institute of Biotic Stress Management (NIBSM), Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India.

Academic and Research Achievements

Dr. Ghosh carried out research in all aspects of Natural Resource Management (Agronomy). His pioneering works are on climate change, carbon sequestration, Resource use efficiency, Conservation agriculture, Crop diversification, Soil water conservation, Integrated Farming System (IFS), Fodder research, Biotic stress management. Implemented National initiative on fodder Technology demonstration throughout the country through 100 KVKs, established 84 Model fodder village and grassland in 6 states in 657-acre area and promoted 17 Gousala in UP and Rajasthan for ensuring fodder security and livestock productivity. He published 24 books and 173 research papers in the high impact factor journals with the total citation of 9869, h-index of 46 and i-10 index of 126 and total publication of 313.

Other Contributions

Dr. Ghosh holds many important positions nationally and internationally, few of them are Member, DST Task Force on Climate Change on Forestry; Chairman, National fodder planning committee, and Chairman/Coordinator/Convener of seminar / workshop / conference / brainstorming; Member, Board of Management / Academic Council  of 9 Universities including Country expert / coordinator of many international projects funded by CGIAR/FAO/World Bank; Formulated four policy papers for the country and delivered 33 lead /Key note lectures in National and International conferences, served as Country expert of ICARDA & ICRISAT project, Co-opted member of Double Farming Committee (DFI).

Awards and Honours

He is recipient of 20 National awards including M.S. Randhawa Memorial Award for best Administration, Excellence in Science Award, Sardar Patel Outstanding–Best ICAR Institute Award for leadership, Ground Water Augmentation Award.  Life time Achievement Award (ISA), Harikrishan Shastri Award (IARI), Indian Society of Agronomy Gold Medal, Dr K.G. Tejwani Soil Conservation Award, ICAR Vasantrao Naik Award for Dryland Agriculture, ICAR Inter-disciplinary Team Award, IMPHOS-FAI Award, PPIC-FAI Award, AAAS Senior Award.

Fellow of top three Academy of country (INSA, NASI and NAAS) and three professional society, Indian Society of Agronomy (ISA), Indian Society of plant Physiology and West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology.
